Coating
Intumescent paints for steel, structural steel and cast iron at
Zhuoan Paints are available with 60, 90 ,120-minute fire protection. The intumescent coating are available for interior use , most of
our fire-resistant paints are easy to apply by brush, roller or
spray, with no specialist skills required and fire certificate
issued on completion.
BASIC DESCRIPTIONS:
Modern design practice has increasingly incorporated
architecturally exposed structural steel, or AESS. Originally used
by structural engineers as a highly elaborate exoskeleton, AESS has
evolved into an outlet for both engineers and architects to
integrate components of their work into the visibly finished
structure. If these exposed design elements are also part of the
primary structural components of the building, the integrity of the
structural steel must be protected with an intumescent fire
protection coating.
The product is applied directly to the contour of primed I and H
section columns, angles, channels, beams and hollow sections to
provide fire protection for up to 120 minutes. In a fire, a
chemical reaction takes place causing the fire resistant paint to
expand and form an insulating layer which slows the temperature of
the steel rising to a critical level. Steel starts to lose its load
bearing capacity at a temperature of around 550°C during a fire.
Zhuoan® intumescent paint is designed to protect the buildings main
structure in the event of fire.

Ultra - Thin film intumescent coating systems generally have three
components, a primer, a basecoat (the part which reacts in the
fire) and a sealer coat. The basecoat usually comprises the
following ingredients:
- A catalyst which decomposes to produce a mineral acid such as phosphoric acid.
- A carbonific such as starch which combines with the mineral acid to form a carbonaceous char.
- A binder or resin which softens at a predetermined temperature.
- A spumific agent which decomposes together with the melting of the binder, to liberate large volumes of non-flammable gases. These gases include carbon dioxide, ammonia and water vapour. The production of these gases causes the carbonaceous char to swell or foam and expand to provide an insulating layer many times the original coating thickness.

What Are The Most Common Applications For Zhuoan’s Fireproof
Coating?
The most common applications for Zhuoan’s Fireproof Coating are in
the building industry. Historic architecture,wood cottage,
furniture,lumber, OSB, polywood, wood fire resistant coating top
the list. Hotel, hospital, theater, school ,airport, mall, factory
are also a common usage with steel fire resistant coating.
Can Zhuoan’s Fireproof Coating Be Applied Over Existing Rust And
Corrosion?
With wood Fireproof Coating,the substrate surface must be clean,dry
and free from contamination, such as dust,oil stain,water
stain,etc.With steel Fireproof Coating, only a NACE 3 / SSPC-SP 6
commercial blast cleaning is typically necessary.

What Does The Preparation Process Entail?
Only a NACE 3 / SSPC-SP 6 commercial blast cleaning is typically
necessary. There is no need to blast to NACE 1 or 2 since slight
oxidation on the surface allows for the best chemical reaction.
Can The Speed Of Reaction Be Slowed Down To Increase Working Time
Before It Is Cured?
There are various ways to decrease reaction time, but they are
specific to the material being coated and environmental factors. We
will advise you on this during the consultation.
What Thickness Is Recommended?
For wood Fireproof Coating,11.81mils; for steel Fireproof Coating,
118.11~1968.5mils, specific to the material being coated and fire
resistant standard.
Do I Need Special Equipment In Order To Apply Zhuoan’s Fireproof
Coatings?
Zhuoan’s fireproof coating applied using a plural (2K) spray gun or
brush or roller. For spray model, the coating uses specific ratio,
and sprays on using standard plural spray equipment that mixes at
the nozzle of the spray gun. The process requires no heating
equipment or other apparatus besides the plural spray gun.
What Does The Certification Process Entail?
Training is at our facility or yours. We teach you how to use it,
the application process, and how to recognize proper effect.
Experienced painters generally pick up the technique and understand
the minor differences in a few minutes. We recommend two days of
training to allow ample time to cover maintenance of the equipment,
trouble shooting, and to understand the technology.
